The 122nd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

23 May, 2012

The 122nd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was held in Strasbourg on May 23. The United Kingdom, which was chairing the Council of Europe handed chairmanship over to Albania.

The main themes of discussions were Policy of the Council of Europe towards neighboring regions as well as human rights, democracy and reforms of the Council of Europe.

During the session Mr. Armen Papikyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe, delivered a speech. In his intervention he touched upon not only issues related to the agenda of the Council of Europe, but expressed concern over the raise of xenophobia and in particular hate speech among member states, which regretfully sometimes are stipulated by political motives. In this respect Mr. Papikyan called on the Council of Europe and its member states to undertake consistent steps for excluding and condemning such developments.

The next 123rd  Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will be held on May 16, 2013. During that session the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers will be transferred to Armenia.
