Meeting of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe with the President of European Court of Human Rights

On September 2 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe Paruyr Hovhannisyan had a meeting with the President of the European Court of Human Rights Guido Raymondi.

Speaking about the pivotal significance of the European Court of Human Rights in the human rights protection system of the Council of Europe, the Permanent Representative of Armenia indicated that the Armenia highly appreciates the role of the ECHR and has constantly supported the implementation of reforms aimed at the improvement of its efficiency. Ambassador Hovhannisyan added that Armenia has recently ratified the 15th protocol amending the Convention on ˝Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms˝.

The President of the Court congratulated the Permanent Representative of Armenia for his appointment and briefly presented the reforms currently implemented in the Court and actual challenges. The interlocutors agreed on the essential role of state parties to Convention in the improvement of workflow of the ECHR. The sides emphasized the importance of the effective application of the European Convention of Human Rights at
national level and effective dialogue between the supreme courts.

The interlocutors also touched upon the current statistics and main trends of applications against Armenia.
