An event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence held in Strasbourg

On September 21 a reception dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence was organized by the Armenia’s Permanent Representation in the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Permanent Representative of Armenia to the Council of Europe Paruyr Hovhannisyan delivered an opening speech. Greeting the guests Ambassador Hovhannisyan touched upon the significance of the restoration of statehood and the path passed by the state during the past quarter century. The Permanent Representative of Armenia noted that this path has been characterized by ontinuous reforms, strengthening of human rights, democracy and rule of law in favour of the formation of an open and viable society.

Ambassador Hovhannisyan noticed that this year also marks the 15th Anniversary of Armenia’s accession to the Council of Europe. Ambassador emphasized that Armenia is committed to continue to fully benefit from the cooperation with the Council of Europe while also actively contributing to further enhancement of the role of the organization.

The reception was followed by performances of Strasbourg Chamber Choir «Voix de Strass» and soloist Gayane Movsisyan. The selected works from the treasury of Armenian music were presented to the guests, particularly sharakans of Mesrop, Armenian medieval spiritual music and the music of Komitas.
The event was attended by senior officials of the Council of Europe, ambassadors, diplomats, representatives from the Armenian community and NGOs.
