The Prime Minister meets with ECHR President

Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mattias Guyomar, in Strasbourg.

Prime Minister Pashinyan highly appreciated the key role of the European Court of Human Rights in the European system of human rights protection and highlighted the importance of Armenia’s membership in the Council of Europe and the ECHR, which is one of the pillars of strengthening democracy and the rule of law.

The Prime Minister presented the process of judicial and legal reforms being implemented by the Government of Armenia, emphasizing their targeted direction: increasing the independence, efficiency and accountability of the justice system.

Mattias Guyomar positively assessed the reforms underway in Armenia and expressed confidence that they will contribute to raising the level of human rights protection. He reaffirmed the readiness of the European Court of Human Rights to continue close cooperation with the Republic of Armenia.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues related to the application of ECHR case law and touched upon the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of the establishment of the justice system and the protection of human rights.
