Commemoration of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian genocide in Strasbourg

Commemoration ceremony of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian genocide was held on the 24th of April 2012, during which a wreath was laid at the “Our victims” memorial in the Republic Square in Strasbourg.

The event was marked by the presence of the member of the Republic of Armenia delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mrs. Hermine Naghdalyan, the religious leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Strasbourg Father Vache Hayrapetyan, first deputy mayor of Strasbourg Mr. Robert Hermann, leaders of the Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican churches operating in Strasbourg, non governmental organisations (NGOs) of Alsace, as well as numerous representatives of the Armenian community who paid their respects to the memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Armen Papikyan and the “Alsace-Armenia friendship” benevolent society president Mr. Pierre Zouloumyan both delivered speeches addressed to the participants of the event.

Afterwards, the procession marched from the Republic Square towards the church Saint Madeleine in Strasbourg where a sacred mass was held.
