The Permanent Representative of Armenia to the Council of Europe Paruyr Hovhannisyan presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland

On August 5 the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the Council of Europe Paruyr Hovhannisyan presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland.

During the conversation following the official ceremony the Permanent Representative of Armenia emphasized the valuable role of the Organization in continuous strengthening of democracy, human rights and rule of law in our country within 15 years of Armenia’s membership to the Council of Europe.

Ambassador Hovhannisyan reassured the determination by the authorities of Armenia to continue hereafter the close cooperation with the Council of Europe and its expert and advisory bodies for further strengthening of democratic institutions and processes in Armenia in the light of the constitutional reforms.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland welcomed the newly appointed Permanent Representative of Armenia. He noted that Armenia as an active member state of the organization is consistently involved in the processes and current works of this organisation. The Secretary General mentioned with satisfaction the bilateral effective cooperation as well as the positive steps carried out by the authorities to guarantee standards of the Council of Europe in a process of constitutional and legislative reforms initiated in Armenia.

During the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the international and regional topical issues as well as the cooperation with other international structures.
