President Vahagn Khachaturyan received PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

President Khachaturyan welcomed the guest and highly valued the close and effective cooperation established between Armenia and the Council of Europe. He emphasized that Armenia’s work with the Council, grounded in shared values, contributes to the country’s democratic progress, as well as to the continuous strengthening of human rights and the rule of law.

The President noted that the promotion of democracy is among Armenia’s priorities and added that deep and ambitious reforms are being implemented through daily cooperation between various government bodies and the Council of Europe.
In turn, Theodoros Rousopoulos thanked the President for the warm reception and stated that he highly appreciates the significant changes observed in Armenia in recent years.

During the meeting, issues related to the establishment of democratic institutions in Armenia and the continued promotion of democratic values were discussed. The reforms implemented in recent years in various fields aimed at strengthening the rule of law were particularly emphasized.

The conversation also touched upon regional and geopolitical developments, the emerging challenges in that context, and the ways of addressing them. Both sides stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and stability for the further development of democracy.

The sides also exchanged views on the general situation in the region, during which the President reiterated Armenia’s commitment to achieving good-neighborly relations and peace with its neighbors, as well as to remaining steadfast in upholding democratic values and principles.
