On October 7, an official reception dedicated to the 35th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia was held at the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Armen Papikyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Council of Europe, reflected on the achievements recorded since Independence, highlighting the role of the Council of Europe in deepening democracy and strengthening European values in Armenia. Ambassador Papikyan emphasized that, for Armenia, democracy is both a choice and an ongoing commitment and due to this commitment, Armenia is sovereign in its decisions, peaceful in its relations, open to cooperation, and steadfast in its democratic values, which form the foundation of long-term security and stability.

Ambassador Papikyan also paid tribute to the memory of the Armenians who had devoted their lives to preserving Armenian statehood.

Reflecting on the years of Independence, Ambassador Papikyan further noted that, throughout these 35 years, the Council of Europe had played an indispensable role in supporting Armenia’s democratic development and strengthening statehood based on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Tanja Gonggrijp, also delivered congratulatory remarks.

The reception was attended by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Secretary General of PACE, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the Mayor of Strasbourg, Ambassadors of Council of Europe member states, and representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Armenian community.

During the reception, the “Voix de Strass’” choir performed the national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and the Council of Europe, as well as renowned works from the Armenian musical repertoire.
